Capriol Dancers
The Capriol Dancers are a performing group, established in 1981 and drawn from members of the Society. They give public presentations of historical dancing in appropriate period dress and perform in many different venues, including stately homes, Cambridge colleges, local schools and halls. Outdoor performances are sometimes possible, but are inevitably subject to the weather; it is always desirable to have an indoor alternative available.
The Dancers' repertoire comprises dances of the following periods and places:
- Mediæval Europe (using a larger company supplemented with other members of the Society)
- 15th-century France and Britain
- 15th-century Italy
- 16th-century England and France
- 16th-century Italy
- 17th-century England, including the earliest English Country Dances.
Normally, the venue needs to be within a modest distance of Cambridge.
